Thanks everyone for the suggestions and extensions -- all valid and probably better than mine.

Here's hoping all our wishes come true in 2010 and we can return to just building nice, compact, well-integrated, easy-to-use applications -- nah, too boring probably :).

Have a great 2010 y'all!

Great call on the "Death of..." cliche. Last year, when Salesforce.com declared "the Death of Software" at Dreamforce, I wondered to myself, "what is it they plan on selling?" It's a stupid construct, almost as dumb as adding "Extreme" to things that can't ever be extreme (Extreme SFA! Extreme Guacamole! Extreme Plush Animals!).

Just a few to avoid for 2010:

* media are replaced by social media
* social media will deliver a lot of new sales
* social media require no investment and are easy
* business-ICT alignment , that was only a condition for the future which you have hopefully achieved in 2009
* IT is not following my objectives (take control and solve it)
* I don't understand anything on technology
* Twitter is going to be big

Esteban,
Love the list. (and yes I know I stink at returning phone calls sometimes :) Its all this stuff with my day job that keeps getting in the way. I have you specifically in my calendar to call on Jan 4. Hope to connect)

Anyway, back to the list (and I relish your cheeky writing style here. I'll see how many more times I can use parenthases in this comment for lack of knowledge of other punctuation). I would add "ownership" to the list. Who 'owns' social? Who 'owns' the customer? Who owns [fill in the blank) (brackets, not parentheses) This isn't the '49'er Gold Rush or land grab of the 1890's....oh wait, I guess in some ways, it was. Hopefully, "was" is the operative word. Let's not bicker and argue over who owns what. If you want to do something, go do it. Staking a claim to it just means, "I don't know what to do. But I don't want anyone else doing anything before me" That, my friend, is so 1990's corporate culture.

Happy Holidays

the psycho-graphics of your statement make me think that your socio-nomics are not aligned with the customer-ology we use in CRM.

could be wrong though...

(in other words, don't forge to add -graphics to your statement)

thanks for the read!

i would even question the data portion, but what-the-heck -- it is xmas time and i will be happy to compromise for a kind-spirit. data technology it is, as opposed to just technology.

thanks for the read and comments...

Either IT needs to give up it's name or grow into it. Few have appropriately been successful as a purveyor of Data Technology. Suggesting that what they deliver actually 'informs' suggests that their disciplines have methods to design solutions from the relevant context of individuals. This is by and large clearly NOT the case.
